From Wall Street to the Cockpit — Meet Blair

I'm Blair Morris, a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) based at Montgomery Field (KMYF) in San Diego, teaching through Plus One Flyers.

I grew up in New Zealand, spent time in Australia, played professional rugby in England, and continued playing socially after moving to the US. Before flying, I spent 20 years in finance as a CPA, including Wall Street consulting work in New York. I spent 18 months in New York, then 2.5 years in Boston, before I moved to San Diego for the lifestyle—and fell in love with it.

Finance was a good career, but I never loved it, and I couldn't imagine doing it into my 50s and 60s. My first discovery flight in 2020 changed that. I spent the next five years earning my aviation qualifications while still working in finance and became a CFI in 2025.

Today, alongside instructing, I also fly skydivers - a role that’s given me valuable experience in a commercial flying operation and is a lot of fun.

I love teaching students of different ages and backgrounds, from first lessons to returning pilots finding their confidence again.

My teaching principles:

• Safety first.

• Preparation is essential—for both the student and the instructor.

• Mistakes are opportunities to learn.

• Keep a beginner's mindset and never stop learning.

• Have fun!
