  • No, I am an Approved Instructor through Plus One Flyers, the world's largest pilot club. To undertake pilot training, you will need to be a member of Plus One Flyers.

  • Nothing to get started! However, if you want to continue training, below is what I would recommend, which can be spaced out depending on your stage of training

    Headset

There are cheaper options in the $100- $200 range, but my personal recommendations are:

David Clarke's will give you the best bang for your buck, and what I used for my first several years of flying (~$350)

Bose premium option, you do notice the difference in quality with noise cancelling, but not essential when you first start your journey (~$1,000)

    iPad/Foreflight

Most pilots utilise iPads / Foreflight app for situational awareness, maps, weather briefing, and airport information etc.

    Online Ground School (~$300)

This will teach you the fundamentals of aviation theory and save you money, not having to do as many ground lessons with your instructor

    E6B & Flight Plotter

Traditional flight planning tools for Flight Planning (~$30)

    Aviation Books

These are all available for free download on the FAA website; however, if you are old-school, like me, you may prefer to use textbooks.

“I’ve flown with Blair (Kiwi Flyer San Diego) numerous times, and he’s been awesome to work with every time. Before our flights, he always took time to explain the manoeuvres we’d be doing and why, and even shared articles and videos to review beforehand, which really helped me feel prepared.

In the air and during our debriefs on the ground, he broke things down clearly and offered helpful feedback without ever making me feel bad or discouraged. He has a great ability to critique and coach while still being encouraging, and I felt like I genuinely improved each time we flew.

One thing that really stood out was how Blair reminded me to have fun during training. It’s easy to get caught up in the pressure of training and forget how cool flying actually is. He’d take a moment to point that out, like cruising over the coast on a summer evening around sunset. Those moments reminded me of why I started flying in the first place.

I earned my PPL a few weeks ago, and I give Blair a ton of credit for helping me along the way. I’d absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, supportive, and effective CFI.”
